Towards Portable Controlled Natural Languages for Querying Ontologies
نویسنده
چکیده
Natural Language Interfaces (NLIs) to structured data allow users to interact with a system using written or spoken language to perform tasks that require knowledge of a formal language. Due to natural language complexity and ambiguity, such interfaces usually support a Controlled Natural Language (CNL): a subset of a natural language that includes certain vocabulary and grammar rules that have to be followed. Building vocabulary differs from one system to another, and the way this is performed significantly affects portability : portable CNLs for querying ontologies are those that can be adapted easily to new domains without sacrificing performance. In this paper we describe the approach for dynamically extending the vocabulary supported by such systems, through a dialog with the user.

Background and Aim: Ontologies facilitate data integration, exchange, searching and querying. Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) Foundry is a solution for creating reference ontologies. In this foundry, the design of ontologies is based on established principles which allow for their interactions as a single system. The purpose of this study is to determine the main features of ontologies develop...
متن کاملA Comparison of three Controlled Natural Languages for OWL 1.1
At OWLED2007 a task force was formed to work towards a common Controlled Natural Language Syntax for OWL 1.1. In this paper members of the task force compare three controlled natural languages (CNLs) — Attempto Controlled English (ACE), Ordnance Survey Rabbit (Rabbit), and Sydney OWL Syntax (SOS) — that have been designed to express the logical content of OWL 1.1 ontologies. The common goal of ...
متن کاملQuestion Answering over BioMedical Linked Data with Grammatical Framework
The blending of linked data with ontologies leverages the access to data. GFMed introduces grammars for a controlled natural language targeted towards biomedical linked data and the corresponding controlled SPARQL language. The grammars are described in Grammatical Framework and introduce linguistic and SPARQL phrases mostly about drugs, diseases and relationships between them. The semantic and...
متن کاملEnglish Querying over Ontologies: E-QuOnto
Relational database (DB) management systems provide the standard means for structuring and querying large amounts of data. However, to access such data the exact structure of the DB must be know, and such a structure might be far from the conceptualization of a human being of the stored information. Ontologies help to bridge this gap, by providing a high level conceptual view of the information...
متن کاملDesigning Efficient Controlled Languages for Ontologies
The attempts made in the 70s and 80s to build natural language interfaces (NLIs) to information systems and databases turned into disappointments towards the 90s (Androutsopoulos et al., 1995). One of the reasons were the challenges posed by structural and semantic ambiguity in arbitrary natural language input. As a way to overcome the ambiguity problem, the controlled natural language (CL) par...
